Russia and the Philippines Plan to Perform Pre-Feasibility Study on SMRs in the Philippines

20 January 2022 – As part of the Small Modular Reactors (SMR) Day at the World Expo 2020 exhibition in Dubai, ROSATOM and the Department of Energy (DOE) of the Republic of the Philippines presented a joint action plan to elaborate nuclear power plants (NPP) using the Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology through a Pre-Feasibility study.

Earlier in 2019, the DOE and Rosatom signed in Moscow, Russia a Memorandum of Intent (MOI) to have a Pre-Feasibility Study to elaborate NPPs based on the SMR Technology.
“SMR technologies offer an effective solution in the supply of stable, reliable and environmentally friendly power in island countries. ROSATOM's low-power reactors are a reference solution tested in the harsh conditions of the Arctic on Russian icebreakers, and we are pleased that our partners from the Republic of the Philippines are ready to continue our joint work in this direction,” stated Evgeny Pakermanov, President of Rusatom Overseas.
Small Modular Reactors (SMR) Day became the main event of the Rosatom "Breakthrough Technologies for a Sustainable Future" week in Dubai.
The week-long program highlighted a wide range of technologies and their applications – including the latest nuclear innovations – aimed at improving quality of life and helping to tackle global social, economic and environmental challenges.
